Our Denomination and Our Community

The Church of the Nazarene is a Protestant Christian church in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition-- tracing our roots back to John Wesley. We emphasize holy living, faithful discipleship, and global engagement, which is reflected in our denominational mission statement: “To make Christlike disciples in the nations.” As a global community of faith, we are commissioned to take the Good News of life in Jesus Christ to people everywhere.

Since its organization in 1908, the Church of the Nazarene has been a global denomination, and is now home to about 2.5 million members worshipping in more than 30,000 congregations in 164 world areas. Also, since its inception, the Church of the Nazarene has been ordaining women as vocational ministers and affirming that the Holy Spirit calls both men and women to fully participate in God's mission.

We place a high priority on Christian discipleship. Christian discipleship is a way of life. It is the process of learning how God would have us live in the world. As we learn to live in obedience to the Word of God, in submission to the disciplines of the faith, and in accountability to one another, we begin to understand the true joy of the disciplined life and the Christian meaning of freedom. Discipleship is not merely human effort, submitting to rules and regulations. It is the means through which the Holy Spirit gradually brings us to maturity in Christ. It is through discipleship that we become people of Christian character. The ultimate goal of discipleship is to be transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ.

Here at Selah Nazarene, we're committed to passionately following Jesus and loving all people. On Sundays, we gather for worship, prayer, and scripture reading in community. All are welcome-- come as you are! Together, we're learning to practice compassion in our neighborhood and our world, and we're seeking to steward our resources for the sake of influence and impact. In the summer of 2020, we welcomed a new pastor (Pastor Alicia McClintic), and we're dreaming about what this new season of ministry will look like.

Selah Church of the Nazarene is open to worshippers of all ages and backgrounds who are seeking to follow Jesus and cultivate a thriving faith life. We have a long history of serving the people of Selah and the Yakima Valley.

We hope you'll join us!
